On the 26th April Selby Abbey played host to an innovative event aimed at bringing employers, training providers and potential new apprentices together the inaugural Apprenticeship Event which will bring employers and young people together. This free event aimed to:

Despite the inclement  and unseasonable weather the event proved to be very popular with steady footfall of over 200 young people throughout the day.  North Yorkshire County Council Recruitment and Selection Services  worked in partnership with Your Consortium Ltd and other stakeholders to run the event and promote the range of possibilities for apprenticeships in Selby and the surrounding area. Kate Race was the overall manager  for the event….

Support local employers that are already providing apprenticeships to recruit young people;

 

To provide local employers with the information and support needed to start providing apprenticeships;

 

To provide young people with apprenticeship information and support the transition to employment with a local employer;

 

To promote Higher Apprenticeships to young people who may be considering their options beyond secondary school and/or further education;

 

To promote Higher Apprenticeships to employers.

“It was encouraging to see so many young people turn out to the Selby App Event, despite the wet weather, to meet with a wide range of exhibitors from the local area.

 

Over 200 people came through the doors of Selby Abbey and a number of young people were matched to real apprenticeship vacancies which in itself makes the event a huge success.”
